50 years of haus martha – our chronicle

The history of “Haus Martha” began more than 50 years ago, in 1967 to be precise, when Martha found out by chance that a wonderful large plot of land was for sale in what is now the Nöbele district of Biberwier. It was immediately clear to her that this beautiful piece of land should one day be enjoyed by many people! So the idea for her own guest house was born and the purchase was initiated immediately. At the time, there was still a small, very dilapidated half-timbered house here.

Freshly in love Martha and Herbert began 1969 with the building their dream house.

The next two years were Enormous muscle power and energy invested in the new home with 6 guest rooms. How good that Herbert was a professional and, after his daily work “on the building site”, also made great progress with his own house construction. Of course, they worked together every weekend to realize their dream of owning their own home.

Just in time for Christmas 1971 Martha and Herbert, together with 8-year-old Otto (Martha’s son from her first marriage), were able to stay overnight in the new house for the first time. Of course, the first guest room on the upper floor.

Anyone who thinks that we have now rested is far from it. It was continued to work diligently and so in the year 1972 On the second floor there are three double rooms with bathrooms and the spacious, beautiful wooden balcony around the house.

They married in May 1973 and their daughter Moni was born in the same year.

Furthermore Herbert worked every evening and on weekends The interior and exterior of “Haus Martha” are also being embellished. In the summer 1975 the first advertising material, a postcard, can be printed.

In the winter “Haus Martha” was also very popular with vacation guests, many of whom came from Germany.

The two Marienberg surface lifts (sections 1 and 2) were built back in the 1960s. At the time, the section 2 drag lift was the Austria’s longest drag lift. Today, you can take the double chairlift to the mountain station here in both summer and winter.

The ski area was then expanded to include the Joch and Almlift as well as the summer toboggan run. As early as 1985, Biberwier six snow cannons and the ski resort’s first snowmaking system was built. The fun on the slopes during the winter vacation was thus largely assured.

Son Harald was born in the summer of 1977. Martha now lovingly looked after her three children and the countless, beloved guests from near and far. Some of the guests from the early years of “Haus Martha” still come to visit today, 50 years later, and have long since become part of the family. welcome regular guests.

Every spring, Martha was on top form at the sight of flower troughs and balcony boxes. 1979 her passion for flowers was even honored with the first first place in the “Flower and Garden Competition” of the tourism association.

Martha’s splendid flowers on the balcony, in the garden and in the driveway can be admired from spring to late fall.

The three children grew and flourished and were of course also present at the countless cozy barbecues.

Throughout the summer, the garden became an outdoor kitchen and Herbert served his guests a whole range of delicacies.

As a trained butcher, no one could compete with him at the grill and the whole house enjoyed his grilled specialties, from chops to whole roasts to fish. Of course, Martha’s much sought-after potato salad and her juicy apricot cake were not to be missed.

In winter, Silvester even built its own snow bar in the garden !

In addition to so much enjoyment, sporting activities were of course also a must. Martha, Herbert and the children climbed many mountain peaks with their guests and enjoyed the unique nature of the Tyrolean mountains together with them.

Herbert’s highlight was the tour to the Höllkopf via the Schachtkopf, Martha raved about the tour via the Ehrwalder Alm to the Tajatörl.

Also Martha’s musical talent (she was a member of the church choir in Biberwier for over 30 years) left its mark on her children Monika and Harald. Both have played several instruments since childhood and are both members of the brass band (Harald as chairman) as well as the choir (Monika as director) played a leading role.

Of course, there was not much time for his own vacation. You can list the Family vacations Martha, Herbert and the children. Nevertheless, they all have fond memories of vacations together at Lake Millstätter See in Carinthia, in Schruns in Montafon or in Cesenatico in Italy. During the Schennach family’s vacations, “Haus Martha” was looked after by long-time regular guests.

In addition to her daily tasks such as bringing up the children, running her own household and managing the guest house, Martha, bursting with energy, also took care of countless shuttle services. Whether her guests needed to be picked up from the airport or train station, Munich, Innsbruck or Garmisch, Martha was always there on time. She also sometimes acted as a “travel guide” for long-time guests and took them on excursions to Lake Constance or Wolfgangsee, the Pitztal or Hintertux glaciers, Verona or Lake Garda and much, much more.

In the evening, they met daily in the lounge to enjoy playing cards or board games together or simply to chat and spend a cozy evening together. In addition to fantastic Rummikub evenings (every table in the room was occupied), there was also a period of real knitting fanaticism. Of course, there were also many fun and lavish carnival, New Year’s Eve and birthday parties as well as numerous Guest honors to which Martha did not miss the opportunity, Individual poems for the respective guests of honor to write.

Of course, year after year, the hotel was spruced up, modernized and renovated. The first major renovation took place in 1994: five of the nine double rooms were converted into three apartments . In this year, TV sets were also installed in every apartment and every room.
